• The plant genus " Baillonia " ( family Verbenaceae ) was named in his honor by Henri Th閛phile Bocquillon.
• Despite the common names, they are not related to " Verbena " ( vervains ) or lantanas in the family Verbenaceae.
• In some classifications it has been placed in the family Verbenaceae, but more recently has been placed by some botanists in the monogeneric family "'Avicenniaceae " '.
• Although it has sometimes been classified in the family Verbenaceae, 21st century research has placed it in a small family ( Phrymaceae ) along with " Mimulus " ( monkey flowers ) and a small number of other genera which had formerly been in the Scrophulariaceae.
• Whenever Phrymaceae was not recognized, " Phryma " was usually placed in the family Verbenaceae, but sometimes in Lamiaceae . " Mimulus " and its relatives were usually placed in some version of Scrophulariaceae that was much larger than the currently accepted circumscription of that family.
